The basics
What does it cost?
The iPhone app is free. Friends joining from a browser don’t pay or install anything.
Do my friends need the app?
Not to join a split. They open your link in a browser or the App Clip. Group invites do need the app.
Does SplitMe touch my money?
No. It doesn’t process payments or hold funds. You pay in the app you open yourself.
Do I need an account?
In the app, yes: Apple, phone or email. Guests joining a split don’t.
The bill
Do I have to scan the receipt?
No. Typing it in always works. A scan only fills in a draft you review.
What happens to my receipt photo?
It’s read on our servers, then discarded.
Does it work outside the US?
Splits can be in twelve currencies, with no conversion. Venmo, Cash App and Apple Cash are for US dollar splits.
The maths
How are tax and tip divided?
By what you ordered. A host can choose an even tip in House Rules.
What about odd cents?
A fixed rule places each leftover cent, so shares always add up to the bill.
It’s someone’s birthday.
Turn on birthday mode. They owe nothing, and the rest split their share.
Paying up
How do I pay the host?
Venmo and Cash App open with your amount filled in. For Apple Cash, SplitMe copies it and opens Messages.
I paid in cash.
Mark it as paid yourself. The host can too.
Do you sell my data?
No. The Privacy Policy has the detail. For anything else, try Support.
